Studio - The Dyeworks

Photo of the Dyeworks (Left) and my painting
I started my business there approximately 3 years ago, renting one unit to begin with. I enjoyed the atmosphere of New Lanark and have a wonderful view looking out over the River Clyde. This is where I do all my painting with natural sunlight streaming in through the studio windows. Approximately one year later the workshop next door to me became vacant and I arranged to rent it also, knocking a wall between the two workshops, allowing me to expand and have a proper gallery and separate workshop.
New Lanark attracts many tourist and my brochures, leaflets and business cards can be found all over the world.
My studio was originally called “The Dyeworks” which obviously is where all the fabrics were dyed. Opposite there is “The Mechanics Workshop” which was used to repair machinery and up until recently was used to manufacture cashmere sweaters. As you pass my studio you come to the Wildlife Centre which is on the way to viewing the famous “Falls of Clyde.” I have painted the Falls of Clyde several times both in oil and water colour, in Spring, summer and winter. All of which you can view on my gallery. Only two of these paintings are originals, one in oil and one in water colour. All the others have been sold but if you wish an original painting of the “Falls of Clyde,” please let me know and I can have this painting for you within a couple of weeks.
As you can imagine in the winter time the studio gets really cold as it is constructed from bricks and concrete so I close it down in January and February. During this time I still paint from home and I am still willing to accept commissions. In the summer time I am at my studio every weekend and most afternoons.
Approx 2/3rds of the studio is Gallery and the final third is where I paint. Many people are interested in what I am doing at that moment and the fact that I do not only do one painting at a time. By working on several paintings at the same time I get a more rewarding experience and a deeper understanding of the subject. I feel that I do a much better painting.
When I am working at the studio I produce paintings and customised greetings cards, or print some of my paintings, I can even mount and frame the painting while you wait.
