Choir member
I Joined the Lanark and Carluke Choral Union about 10 years ago and every year we do two concerts, one in the Greyfriars Church in Lanark which varies greatly every year, mostly a selection of light music with our own soloists. This year our concert in Greyfriars Church is in November and it will consist of selections from Gilbert and Sullivan and a selection of mostly Andrew Lloyd Webber songs. Our main concert is in St Marys Church in Lanark, which is a beautiful church with amazing acoustics. In 2005 we are rehearsing Schuberts Requiem and Mozarts Coronation Mass. We have a full size professional orchestra and professional singers. This will take place at easter time 2006. I am on the committee and in charge of publicity so contact me for more info.
Bank of Scotland Pensioners Association.
I am sorry to say that I have just become a pensioner and now have become eligible to join the Bank of Scotland Pensioners Association. The reason being that in my working life most of the time it was working for the Bank of Scotland. I entered a Christmas card competition last year and won it with the painting of the Lanark Wellgate .this was printed and circulated to around 1500 member of the association. I have entered again this year with the New Lanark at night scene. They also asked me to do an article which printed in the magazine
As previously mentioned my working life was mostly with the Bank of Scotland. However I did have several jobs in the past which included being a market research interviewer for dogs cats and budgies, a policewoman for 3 years and most recently I managed the Marie Curie cancer care shop in Lanark where I was in charge of around 25 volunteers. That was my most favourite job and I still help out at the Lanark shop and on occasions any other shop which is short of a manager.
So if you visit new Lanark and I am not there you will most likely find me at the Lanark Marie Curie shop at 01555 661077.
Lanark Art Group
Approximately 15 years ago 5 keen amateur artists got together and created the Lanark Art Group. We now have 25 members and a waiting list to join us. We meet at the Lanark Memorial Hall in a small room, hence the waiting list. We do our own thing and do not have a tutor. However we invite professional artists to give us demonstrations or workshops a few times per year. Our main exhibition is in the memorial hall in Lanark where we exhibit around 200 paintings. These are for sale and a percentage of each sale is donated to charity. We manage to raise around £700 to a nominated charity every year. Our exhibition this year is on 28th 29th and 30th October. Everyone is welcome and entry is free.
